The Belief in a Just World: A Fundamental Delusion

The Phantom of the Opera (Penguin Classics)

The Phantom of the Opera - Gaston Leroux, Jann Matlock, Mireille Ribiere This starts off pretty well, even though it's a sort of detective story about a ghost. Leroux appears to have a bit of a sense of humour about the dubiousness of the whole enterprise. As it goes on, it kind of gets a little out of hand, though I don't really know if that's partly the fault of the translation or not. Personally, I would recommend the first movie version, instead. Even though they totally change the ending, that movie is a real landmark and, to me anyway, much better than the book.
