This wasn't one of my favourites of his. But the ending is so good...one thing I will say for Willy is he knew how to end a novel. It kind of made me rethink the whole thing. Much like Nathaniel West's stuff, I think this book needs to be read multiple times to really absorb all there is. Though it felt a little incoherent or scattershot for most of it, my own reconsideration of it got me over that. We know about Christmas because it is part of her journey, albeit indirectly. I accept that both stories can be in the same book. And in the end it works.
