Adventures of Tom Sawyer (Troll Illustrated Classics)
Is the the prototypical children's story (at least for boys). I guess it can't hurt that I read an illustrated, abridged version as a child but this story is reflected in so many children/teen/coming of age stories nowadays it's hard to know where to begin. It's great.
